Background
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a natural metabolite of cholesterol that supports a wide range of beneficial activities. As the most dominant hormone in the body, DHEA serves as a precursor to other important hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. DHEA is often referred to as the "Mother Hormone" because the body can convert it, upon demand, into a host of other necessary health-enhancing hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and corticosterone. DHEA levels reach their peak around age 20, and then decline in a linear fashion, making DHEA blood levels one of the most reliable markers for measuring biological aging. By age 80 DHEA blood levels have declined as much as 95 percent, signaling the onset of the aging process.
